New Recruit in Conroy Brook Graduate Training Scheme

Award-winning local property developer, Conroy Brook, continues to expand its team with the recruitment of a trainee QS under the company’s ongoing graduate training scheme.

QS Andy Battye welcomes trainee QS Tom Charlesworth

18 year old Tom Charlesworth (pictured on right with QS Andy Battye, left) graduated from Huddersfield’s Greenhead College with 4 A’Levels and 5 AS Levels, and will start a BSc (Honours) Quantity Surveying part-time course at Sheffield Hallam University this September.

Conroy Brook were surprised at the number of applications received, which highlights the need for this type of training scheme across the industry. CEO Richard Conroy said: “It is well reported that there is a skills shortage throughout the construction industry, which is one of the reasons why we started our graduate training scheme - to help develop a new generation who will play an integral role in building the homes of the future.”

Out of all the applicants, Tom was felt to be the ideal fit for the position and team. His responsibilities will include assisting the senior QS with day to day tasks such as site measures, invoice coding and take-offs, in addition to helping other members of the team as required.

Major new developments, that Tom will be involved with, include SummerFord, Ingbirchworth and Braeburn Mews, Bawtry.

Talking about his new role, Tom said: “I have always been interested in construction and made a point of getting summer jobs on building sites as a general labourer so I could learn more about housebuilding. I am really grateful to Conroy Brook for the opportunity to join their company and am looking forward to going to college to become a qualified QS.”
