Ben Bailey acquires new development sites in Barnsley and Doncaster.

Conroy Brook/Ben Bailey Homes Group Ltd has acquired two new South Yorkshire parcels of land for development from listed housebuilder MJ Gleeson Plc at an undisclosed sum in a significant transaction for the company’s future development pipeline.

Barnsley-based Ben Bailey Homes has acquired 71 plots at Danum Glade, Doncaster and 42 plots at Woolley Colliery Road in Darton, Barnsley, both with detailed planning permission and is anticipating a launch of both in Spring 2027.

The deal has been funded by the St Bride’s White Rose Residential Partnership (St Bride’s) and will be the fifth site that St Bride’s have funded with Ben Bailey.

This will be the fourth Ben Bailey site that St Brides have funded with the company.

Previous sites have included Rockingham Fold, a development of 23 family homes in Upper Haugh, Wentworth, Harrop Mews, a 20 family home development in Swinton, Rotherham, and Delacey Meadows, 39 family homes off Coniston Avenue, Staincross, Barnsley, the company’s current flagship development, which is being launched in autumn 2026.

Launched in 1933 by founder Ben Bailey, Mexborough-based Ben Bailey Plc was Yorkshire's largest independent house builder, developing more than 700 homes a year when acquired by Gladedale in 2007.

Following the takeover and a subsequent rebrand, the Ben Bailey name disappeared completely from the construction industry but it made a return after it was acquired by Conroy Brook in 2018.
